Does Playing The Guitar Bore You Now?
We all get bored with things after a time, even with something like playing the guitar. The problem is, if you don’t quickly try to find ways to make it fun again then you could end up stopping for good.
Now we will look at 3 of the most effective ways to make playing the guitar enjoyable again:
Try a different style: When you start off playing the guitar then you typically just play whatever the course you are learning from teaches you, or whatever your tutor asks you to play. When you have learnt enough to start trying songs on your own though then you will turn to the style of music that you like and start to learn how to play them, and probably stick with that style as it is the one you like.
To get out of your rut though and make things fun again then maybe you could try a different style? For instance Blues is a popular style. That might not be your idea of good music, but if you can spend some time learning to play it then you will become a much better guitarist and can use your new skills with whatever style you want afterwards. It might take some effort, but that is part of the fun, and there are lots of amazing Blues guitar instructional DVD on the market right now that you can pick up from places like Amazon.com, they will teach you everything you need to know. Give it a try, you never know you might discover you really like Blues music!
Join a band: Some people learn an instrument specifically because they want to be in a band, and so this part won’t apply to them as they will have joined a band the instant they could strum a few chords together, but some people just want to play by themselves and with a few friends instead. While it may not have appealed to you when you first started learning the guitar, maybe you could give it a go now?
You will find a new group of friends to hang out with when you join a band, and it will force you to do things you haven’t done before and move out of your comfort zone. It is the fact you are pushing yourself to do new things that makes it all so much more exciting, and while nothing will probably come from it other than free beer at the pub, then you never know you might get a record deal!
Become a songwriter: When you have been playing for years then even though you don’t realize it you do have the skills you need to start writing your own songs. It can be quite an intimidating thing as you worry what people will think of it and you worry that your songs will be awful and get laughed at, but writing songs is a gradual process where you improve and sculpt your song over time so don’t expect to make it perfect first time.
You can start off by just playing around on your guitar one night like you probably do anyway, but when you find a particular tune that sounds good then this time write it down. Gradually add to it and amend bits until you have a song you are happy with and then sit back with a smile on your face and realize you’ve done something that most people never will, you’ve written your very own song.
